Please compile your answers to the following criteria and submit to the addresses below. We will meet with all proposing directors two to three months before the show is slated to open. Directors submitting proposals will be contacted after their proposals have been received.

GUIDELINES FOR DIRECTOR PROPOSALS:

1. State the title of the play and its author(s).

2. In a few words, state what the play is about (i.e. the “spine” of the play, or its “theme”).

3. As briefly as possible, state the plot of the play.

4. List each character, give a brief description (physical and emotional), and say what he/she wants - i.e., the character's conflict in relation to the other characters and the “spine.”

5. In what style should the actors execute the play (e.g. realistically, historically mannered, broadly exaggerated)?

6. How do you envision the set? Relate this to style of design (e.g. realistic, surrealistic, representational, etc.), and then describe how your vision of the set relates to the “spine” (will it clarify, strengthen, or be otherwise seminal to telling the story?).

7. What technical difficulties can you anticipate in the production (e.g. sound, lights, special effects, period costumes, difficult setting, actors in peculiar age ranges, etc.)?

8. Make a brief statement about why you want to direct this play.

9. Include a resume or list of theater experience both acting and/or directing.
